No other country in Africa can match Uganda’s amazing diversity of habitats and this richness is reflected in the ever-burgeoning birdlist of over 1,062 species. Uganda is the richest African Birding destination, with some of East Africa’s rarest and most sought after birds.

Various locations just outside Kampala offer the opportunity to see a multitude of different species. Depending on the time available and your particular interest walks are available in a variety of different geographical areas in and around Kampala from Swamps to Forests to Lake Shore. The Golf Course right in the City Centre also offers an excellent bird viewing opportunity if time is short.

Prices start from USD $100 per person, per day. This includes transport and a three to four hour walk with a trained bird guide.

Possible locations in and around Kampala:

Mbamba Swamp and Shore Line (Lake Victoria near Masaka)

About one and a half hours out of Kampala Mbamba Swamp birdlife includes many water birds such as the Shoebill Stork, Openbill and Saddlebilled Storks, Goliath Heron, Black Herons.

Prices range from USD $120 per person per day.

Mabira Forest
