MEET OUR TEAM

Welcome to Uganda!

Pearl of Africa Tours and Travel has been operational for nine years. Located in the heart of Kampala, Uganda's Capital City, we are a fully registered and licensed by the Association of Uganda Tour Operators, Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry and the Uganda Investment Authority, with links to the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. We a medum-sized team dedicated to a variety of travel services in Uganda and arrangements to the rest of the world.

Kelley MacTavish Mungar

An American by nationality, Kelley came to Uganda 17 years ago where she met and married her husband and now has two children.  In addition to running Pearl of Africa Tours and Travel as the Executive Director, Kelley has also been active in various Tourism Associations and development projects over the last 12 years and is a member of the Presidential Roundtable on Tourism. She is a dynamic person with excellent problem solving skills enabling her to develop multi-faceted and complex tours and travel itineraries. 

Ben Ntale

Ben has been with Pearl of Africa for five years as a Travel Consultant dealing with In/Outbound travel itineraries and ticketing. Ben has a Diploma in Tours and Travel from the Airways Hotel and Tourism Institution, Kampala and an International Air Transportion Association (IATA) Diploma in Travel. Ben speaks French, with a Diplome de Langue from Alliance Francais. He is also studying Swahili and journalism.  Ben is eager to learn and has a special interest in other cultures.  He is a ‘people-person’ and is popular with our long term clients.

Ester Mukomba

Esther has a Diploma in Tours and Travel from the International Tourism and Travel School in Kampala (1997). With over 10 years Travel Consultant experience in Uganda, Esther has a broad knowledge of various routes and connections for worldwide flight itineraries. Esther holds a Degree in Social Sciences from Makerere University (2006) which has given her a good understanding of human nature and the ability to deal with people from all walks of life.  She is patient and sensitive to client’s needs. She has been with Pearl of Africa for three years.

Sam Baguma

Bugsy’ as he is affectionately known to the staff at Pearl of Africa Tours and Travel has been with the company since its inception nine years ago. He is a dedicated and hardworking individual and is a cheerful character.  As the Transport Coordinator, Bugsy works closely with the Operations Department to plan for appropriate driver and vehicle allocation for all safaris and tours whether in Uganda or in neighboring countries.  Bugsy is in charge of car hire activities including delegations, and often leads City Tours for the company. He has a Diploma in Tour Guiding from Crested Crane Tourism School in Jinja and Certificates in Guest Guiding from Makerere, and Public Relations from UMI (Uganda Management Institute).

Julie Atuhaire

A bright, efficient and dedicated young individual, Julie manages the Office Administration and works closely with the Executive Director to ensure the smooth running of all Pearl of Africa Tours and Travel activities. Julie has been with Pearl of Africa Tours and Travel for seven years now and holds various certificates including an Accounting ‘ACCA Level 1’ from MUBS (Makerere University Business School), a Certificate in Project Planning and Management and a Degree in Business Administration both from Makerere University. She is now pursuing a post-graduate diploma in Financial Management from UMI (Uganda Management Institute).

Driver/Guides:

Kizito

Kizito (pronounced Chee-zee-toe) has been a driver for 7 years, the last 5 of which have been with Pearl of Africa Tours and Travel. He is well versed with Uganda’s transport network. Kizito enjoys his work and loves meeting new people. He is a safe and competent driver and is a courteous and responsible individual. Co-workers describe him as a ‘jolly and friendly’ fellow who will be fun to have with you on your safari. 

Jamil

Jamil (pronounced Jah-meel) has worked in the Tourism Sector for more than 8 years. He came to Pearl of Africa Tours and Travel in 2001 as a Driver/Tour Guide.  He is a trained bird guide and has personally sighted more than 600 birds.  Jamil is a calm and consistent person and is a competent driver and knowledgeable guide.

David Wamala

David has been with us for the 8 years Pearl of Africa Tours and Travel has been in existence. He is one of our more mature driver/guides with more than 25 years driving experience. A gentle character, he is a pleasure to be around and an extremely competent driver. 

Dominic

Domic is very skilled when it comes to guiding. He is a member of Uganda Bird guide Association and knows over 400 bird species. he is very humorous when he is interacting with clients and keeps them guessing what he will tell them next.

Robert Mugabe

Robert was born around the time Robert Mugabe became the President of independent Zimbabwe (1980). Robert is a jolly person and is always smiling and laughing. He started working for Pearl of Africa Tours and Travel eight years ago. He is a very good safari guide especially with Mechanics. He is also a member Uganda Bird Guide Association and is knowledgeable with birds and mammals. He knows also every this country's 'corners' very well. He is fluent in English and in both languages and tends to 'pool' back clients after thir first visit to Uganda.
