MGAHINGA SAFARI LODGE

Kisoro district, Southwestern Uganda

Mid to Up-Market

Mgahinga Safari Lodge is the ideal starting place for gorilla tracking because it is a 45 minutes drive; or by boat, to Mgahinga National Park Headquarters. This lodge is an oasis in the middle of paradise as it is located on a peninsular in Lake Matanda that is situated in the three-county-corner of Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. It also serves as base for gorilla trekking in Parc de Volcans Rwanda and Djomba/Virunga National Park in Democratic Republic of Congo.

The newly renovated lodge offers comfortable tent accommodation for the mountainous chilly nights. They are furnished with two single beds, side tables, wardrobe, as well as a two-seater lounge suite. At the rear of each tent are shower and toilet facilities that are equipped to European standards. The water supply for the Lodge is provided by means of pressure pumps from the lake that is filtered and distributed into large water tanks. Hot water is supplied by means of conventional heaters.

The main building houses the dining room, bar, lounge, where the skilled staff will look after your needs. Local and international cuisines are served, as well as local and international wines, malt and spirits are available. The verandah of the main lodge building is an ideal spot to watch the sun set over the snow capped Virunga Mountains while telling stories of your experience with the gorillas.

Stay longer and enjoy the hikes/walks to the caves and volcanic craters, look for the rare golden monkeys, cave bats or visit the unique alpine-mountain swamps in the parks.

A boat/launch is available for a cruise on Lake Mutanda whereby you can watch the local fishermen´s nets. Pull up to one of the many islands jutting from the clean mountain water for a picnic or short hike.
