Nkuringo Safari Lodge is a paradise on the shores of Lake Mutanda that overlooks the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes in Rwanda. It was established in 1996 and has been recently removated to international standards.
Accommodation offered is camping 7 self contained tented rooms and 2 grass-thatched cottages. The camp has 15 tents, a communal kitchen and bathroom facilities. The self contained tents are built on the shores of the lake with private fromt porch/ verandah and a permanent stone bathroom at the rear. The thatched cottages cater target family groups are have one double bed, a twin bunk for children and en suite bathrooms.
The lodge is constructed on two levels whereby the ‘top deck’ area, that commands sensational views of the Virunga Volcanoes and Lake Mutanda, has a restaurant and bar next to a warm night fire. The main section is on the ‘lower deck’ is predominantly used during the day for early breakfasts and lunch buffets. There is a lounge and bookshop and a library provides reading material for lazy afternoons.
From this lodge, you can go gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The park is famous for its gorillas, as well as a diversr wildlife population including over 90 mammal species and 300 bird species. Enjoy breathtaking views, exotic bird watching and if you have the energy, climb the volcanoes or take a hike. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Virunga Mountains are about an hour's drive from the lodge.
Activities offered are a sun downer cruise, lake canoe safari, caving and hiking. The Sun Downer Cruise entails a small pontoon boat that takes guests around the lake's islands located where the guides/ drivers educate you about the local bird species and the local traditions. The Lake Canoe Safari is where Canadian style canoes take up to four guests and a guide on tours of the lake shores.
